School Nurses provide nursing services to the students and staff at the 50 schools in the Durham Public Schools including limited services to Alternative Educational Programs. Services include individual and group assessment and counseling, teaching classes on topics of health and health-related issues, developing individual care plans for students with chronic health concerns such as asthma, diabetes, seizures, sickle cell, etc., serving as health resource person for teachers and other school staff, and promoting appropriate decision making in order to impact on the teenage pregnancy and infant mortality rates.
